A statewide recognition of Rotary’s commitment to a polio-free world

Rotary’s commitment to ending polio received an important recognition in Illinois, where October 24 has officially been designated World Polio Day. A certificate recognizing October 24 as World Polio Day has been signed by the Governor of Illinois, helping bring greater awareness to the global effort to eradicate polio.

The recognition was made possible through the efforts of Past Rotary International Director Bob Stuart of Springfield, who worked to secure the official designation.

World Polio Day is observed each year on October 24, giving Rotary members and partners around the world an opportunity to raise awareness, celebrate the progress made toward eradication, and remind communities that the fight is not over.

For more than four decades, Rotary has been at the forefront of the global effort to end polio. Through advocacy, fundraising and vaccination efforts, Rotary members have helped protect millions of children from this devastating disease.

The designation in Illinois is another example of how Rotary members can turn their commitment to service into meaningful action—bringing the message of “End Polio Now” to communities, state leaders and the public.

Congratulations and thank you to Past RI Director Bob Stuart for helping make this important recognition possible!
