The Rotary Club of Quad Cities Illinois collaborated with Friends of Hauberg Civic Center for the 2025-2026 District Grant. They purchased over 100 apple trees planted April 26, 2026 on the grounds of the historical Rock Island Hauberg Estate. Food insecurity and demand of pantries is a concern.

Fresh fruits and vegetables must be locally sourced to reduce expense of refrigeration, shipping time and expense, and limited shelf life. The club chose a sustainable and impactful project to support local food sourcing that will be enjoyed by thousands of families for years to come.
The property is being developed back to the original glory, and will soon be a source of inspiration, education, and nourishment for the mind and body. Terraced gardens containing fruit trees and vegetables will also be a space to relax and learn. They estimate that the full development will take 3 to 5 years. The Club intends to continue their partnership beyond the grant project by supporting them with volunteer hours and financial support. The Hauberg Estate is also the location of the pollinator garden developed last year as part of the DG initiatives. We recommend you put them on your list to visit the next time you're in the Rock Island area.
