The District 6420 Treasurer PDG Nelda Pitelka

Nelda “Nel” has been a member of the Sandwich Rotary Club since 1990, maintaining perfect attendance ever since. She served as club president 1992-93, club secretary 1990-91 & 1995-97, and now serving again, 2006 to present. Every year she has served and continues to serve on club committees. The Sandwich Rotary club recognized her as Rotarian of the Year for 1999-2000.
In the district, Nel has served on Membership 1994-99 (chair 1996-99), Ambassador Scholarship Committee 1994-2005, Assistant Governor 1998-2000, District Governor 2000-2001, and as Secretary/Treasurer 2001- 06, since 2006 she has been the District Treasurer, Delegate to Council on Legislation in 2004 & 2007. She was recognized with The Rotary Foundation District Service Award in April 2006.
Prior to her marriage to George in April 1964, Nel was employed in Cost Accounting at the Richardson Co. in Melrose Park, IL. and then in the Comptroller / Auditing Department of Prudential Insurance Co. in Chicago. In 1978 she became a Realtor and then a Realtor /Broker. She was in Real Estate for 24 years and served the Tri-County Board of Real Estate as President in 1989, a Board member for 3 years and chair of the By-Laws committee for several years. Nel retired from Real Estate in 2003.
All her life Nelda has been active in church—teaching (36 yrs), choir (60+yrs), Board of Evangelism Ministries (Chair/1999-2004), Endowment Committee (Secretary/1997-2004), Christian Singles of Immanuel & Friends (founder & chair since 2005), Stewardship chair 2007, etc.
Nel has three children and six grandchildren. As her children were growing , Nel was interested and active in the Sandwich School System—instrumental in getting Project Challenge (gifted child) program started in the school district, charter Trustee of the Education Foundation (1994-1996).
Nel and her husband, who passed away in May 2005, are Paul Harris Fellows
