Selection of DGND - Tina Curtis
Our District Bylaws indicate that upon selection of our District Governor Nominee Designate that I am to inform the Club Presidents and Club Secretaries.    
 
I am pleased to announce that our District's Nominating Committee met Saturday, December 2nd and selected Tina Curtis from the Rotary Club of Walnut as our District Governor Nominee Designate.  She will serve as District Governor during the 2026-2027 Rotary year.  She is currently serving as Assistant Governor from Area 7.

Contributions to End Polio Now
Thirteen clubs in District 6420 earned a certificate of appreciation from the Rotary Foundation for the 2022-2023 Rotary year.  This certificate indicated that each club provided at least $1500 to End Polio Now:  Countdown to History Campaign.  Only 5154 Rotary clubs worldwide made that significant of a contribution to the End Polio Now campaign.

Rockford Rotary to Honor Eight with Service Above Self and Mary Stuart Carruthers Awards

Awards Ceremony at Noon, October 26, 2023

The Rotary Club of Rockford will be holding an awards ceremony on Thursday, October 26th at noon at Veterans Memorial Hall. The Club is pleased to honor seven individuals with the Service Above Self Award, and one organization will be honored for its special project to restore the headstones of Rockfords Civil War Soldiers. The Honorable Thomas McNamara, Mayor of Rockford, will speak at the special luncheon.

Illinois Valley Sunrise Completes Create Hope Food Drive 
Members of the Illinois Valley Sunrise Rotary presented a symbolic check to Rotary District 6420 Governor Dave Emerick this week for being the 1st of 43 clubs in northern Illinois to complete the Create Hope Food Drive Challenge. Governor Emerick has challenged every Rotarian in District 6420 to contribute at least 20 pounds of food to local pantries in support of this year’s theme ‘Create Hope In The World.’

Box of Hope Thanksgiving Basket Donations 
The River Cities Rotary club helped make it a great Thanksgiving for some residents of Upper Rock Island County. The club donated 214.14 pounds of food to the Upper Rock Island County Ministerial Food Pantry in Port Byron which was used in their Thanksgiving baskets.

Pollinator Park Phase One 
The first phase of the new Pollinator Park at LaSalle Rotary Park got underway this weekend and was immediately capped off with the very first butterfly visit. On Saturday Rotarians and family members from LaSalle, Peru, and Illinois Valley Sunrise began construction of the pollinator ‘demonstration’ plot near the park entrance on the east side.

Rotary Foundation Dinner 
The Dixon Rotary Club earned bragging rights for successfully winning the award given to the club with the most attendees at the Rotary Foundation dinner in November. It was a wonderful evening of fellowship and inspiration for what we can all accomplish together. 
Task Force Against Human Trafficking
 
The District 6420 Task Force Against Human Trafficking was created in 2017. Their tagline, Education for Eradication, states the purpose of the task force.

Rockford Rotary Polio Program
Rotarian Bob Presman gave a program on why we need to keep Polio + as our #1 Priority.  This Rotary program was started in the mid 80's with over 160 countries with polio cases.

Literacy Campaign
The Dixon Rotary Club delivered dictionaries and thesauruses in November to our local private schools as part of our literacy campaign for the 2023/2024 school year. We had an opportunity to share with them what Rotary is and talk about the initiatives that our club participates in throughout our community.

Eighth Annual End Polio Now Walk
The Eighth Annual End Polio Now Walk was sponsored this year by the Rotary clubs of the Sauk Valley Area: Dixon, Rock Falls., Rotaract of Sauk Valley College, Sterling Noon, and Walnut.  Twenty four Rotarians and guests braved the cold morning on October 7th to walk the Hennepin Canal in an awareness of the need to eradicate polio as a disease from our world.

Putnam County Rotary Hosts Seniors Christmas Carnival
With visions of gifts, bingo, vintage Christmas movies, selfies with Santa and more, Putnam County Rotary hosted its first annual SENIORS CHRISTMAS CARNIVAL for Putnam County senior citizens. The event held Saturday afternoon December 2 also featured some great "carnival" food, including hot pretzels, nachos, cotton candy and hot dogs.
